Compare the2026 Chevrolet Blazer EVVS 2025 Subaru Solterra

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Chevrolet Blazer EV achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Subaru Solterra has not been tested.

Both the Blazer EV and the Solterra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV weighs 504 to 1365 pounds more than the Subaru Solterra. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Blazer EV is safer than the Subaru Solterra:

There are almost 5 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Subaru dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer EV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Subaru vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Subaru is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Subaru vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Subaru is rated below average.

The Blazer EV’s standard electric motor produces 5 more horsepower (220 vs. 215) than the Solterra’s electric motors. The Blazer EV’s optional electric motors produces 85 more horsepower (300 vs. 215) and 106 lbs.-ft. more torque (355 vs. 249) than the Solterra’s electric motors. The Blazer EV SS’ optional electric motors produces 400 more horsepower (615 vs. 215) and 401 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 249) than the Solterra’s electric motors.

For better traction, the Blazer EV has larger standard tires than the Solterra (255/60R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Blazer EV RS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Solterra (275/45R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The Blazer EV’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Solterra Limited/Touring/Onyx’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer EV LT has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Solterra Premium. The Blazer EV’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the Solterra Limited/Touring/Onyx.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Subaru Solterra only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Solterra doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Blazer EV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Solterra doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Blazer EV’s wheelbase is 9.6 inches longer than on the Solterra (121.8 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Blazer EV is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the Solterra.

The Blazer EV SS handles at .89 G’s, while the Solterra Touring pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Blazer EV has 2.1 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more front legroom, 3 inches more front hip room, .9 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, 3.6 inches more rear legroom, 9 inches more rear hip room and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Solterra.

The Blazer EV has a much larger cargo volume than the Solterra with its rear seat up (25.5 vs. 23.8 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Blazer EV’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Solterra doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Blazer EV has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Solterra has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Blazer EV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Solterra doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Blazer EV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Solterra uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The Blazer EV (except LT) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Solterra doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Blazer EV’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Access and Start standard on the Solterra doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door. Keyless Access and Start is not available on the Solterra Touring/Onyx.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer EV has a standard rear wiper. The Solterra doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Blazer EV’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Solterra offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Blazer EV is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Solterra doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The Solterra has never been chosen.
