The Chevrolet Equinox EV has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Full-time four-wheel drive is available on the Equinox EV. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Wagoneer S.

Both the Equinox EV and Wagoneer S have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Equinox EV has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Wagoneer S’ Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

The Equinox EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Wagoneer S’ (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 40 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 19th, below the industry average.

Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 9th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 3 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

For better traction, the Equinox EV has larger standard tires than the Wagoneer S (245/55R19 vs. 235/50R20). The Equinox EV’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Wagoneer S (275/40R21 vs. 235/50R20).

The Equinox EV’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Wagoneer S’ 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Equinox EV offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Wagoneer S’ largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Jeep Wagoneer S only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Equinox EV’s wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer than on the Wagoneer S (116.3 inches vs. 113 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Equinox EV’s turning circle is 1.9 feet tighter than the Wagoneer S’ (38.1 feet vs. 40 feet).

If the windows are left open on the Equinox EV the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Wagoneer S can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Equinox EV is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Chevrolet Equinox outsold the Jeep Wagoneer by almost four to one during 2024.
