Compare the2025 Chevrolet Blazer EVVS 2024 Toyota bZ4X

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Blazer EV. But it costs extra on the bZ4X.

Both the Blazer EV and the bZ4X have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV weighs 699 to 1129 pounds more than the Toyota bZ4X. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Blazer EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the bZ4X’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 2 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer EV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 32 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is ranked 17th.

The Blazer EV’s electric motors produces 87 more horsepower (288 vs. 201) and 137 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 196) than the bZ4X’s standard electric motor. The Blazer EV’s electric motors produces 74 more horsepower (288 vs. 214) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 248) than the bZ4X’s optional electric motors.

For better traction, the Blazer EV has larger standard tires than the bZ4X (255/60R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Blazer EV RS’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the bZ4X (275/45R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The Blazer EV’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the bZ4X Limited’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer EV LT has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the bZ4X XLE. The Blazer EV’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the bZ4X Limited.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota bZ4X only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The bZ4X doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Blazer EV can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The bZ4X doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Blazer EV’s wheelbase is 9.6 inches longer than on the bZ4X (121.8 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Blazer EV is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the bZ4X.

The Blazer EV RS handles at .80 G’s, while the bZ4X Limited pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Blazer EV has 2.3 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more front legroom, 3 inches more front hip room, .9 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom, 3.6 inches more rear legroom, 9 inches more rear hip room and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the bZ4X.

The Blazer EV has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the bZ4X with its rear seat folded (59.1 vs. 56.9 cubic feet).

The Blazer EV has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The bZ4X has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Blazer EV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The bZ4X doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Blazer EV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The bZ4X uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

When two different drivers share the Blazer EV RS, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Blazer EV RS’ standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The bZ4X doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Blazer EV RS offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Blazer EV’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the bZ4X doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door. Smart Key System is not available on the bZ4X Limited.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer EV has a standard rear wiper. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

When the Blazer EV RS is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The bZ4X’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Blazer EV’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The bZ4X has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2024 issue and they ranked the Chevrolet Blazer EV RS first. They ranked the Toyota bZ4X Limited third.

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The bZ4X has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Blazer outsold the Toyota bZ4X by over seven to one during 2023.
